How the Demiurge Became the Devil | Earth Diver Myth



When chaos and disorder reign, it  is often the Devil who is blamed,   his sinister machinations believed to disrupt  the very balance of the cosmos ordained by God.   The Devil, once a mere representative of  non-life, has evolved into a malevolent   force over time, an antagonist to the  protagonism of his divine counterpart.

My name is Radiana, and I shall reveal to you the   obscure nature of this being  who, in Romanian folklore,   is a demiurge and trickster, quite different from  the diabolical Devil depicted in Christianity. In dualistic cosmology, the universe is viewed as  the product of two coeternal and coexisting forces  

Or principles: one representing life and cosmos  and the other non-life and chaos. This concept   collapsed over time into an oversimplified  metaphor of good and evil, as the two forces   are often seen as being in a state of constant  strife or conflict, with each trying to overpower  

The other. And some have personified these  forces and refer to them as God and the Devil. Early Christian theology introduced the Devil to  Western culture as a fallen angel who rebelled   against God and lured humanity into sin,  establishing him as an embodiment of evil.  

While he was assimilated by some cultures  and integrated into religious thought, he   has also evolved in other cultures as a standard  reference to generic evil and was overlapped with   pre-Christian deities of Chthonic nature or  primordial beings who co-created the world.

Such is the case in Romanian mythology, and  this is also reflected in the common language,   with one popular proverb stating that the  Devil is not as dark as one may think,   often referring to a situation or a person that  may not be as bad as perceived upon first glance.

Although the origins of the word are  said to be of scriptural origin from   the Greek diaballein which means “to  slander, attack,” or “to throw across,”   and passed down through popular mythology through  the church and ecclesiastical books, according to  

Older etymologies, the name of the Devil is  closely linked to the realm of the sacred. The word “devil” is believed by some  scholars to mean “lesser god” from the   root div- or the Proto-Indo-European  dyeu- which means “to shine” and its   derivatives refer to the sky,  heaven, god, and the divine.

And it is important to note here that, when the  Old Testament was translated from Hebrew to Greek,   Egyptian Hebrews from the third century  BC used the form “diabolos” instead of the   Hebrew “Satan” to refer to a being similar to an  angel whose task was to test man’s faith to God.  

And when this was translated to Latin, the word  “diabolos” morphed into “diabolus”, which in the   Middle Ages came to be understood as meaning  “double death” or “the double bite of death”   from the words “dia” meaning “two”  and “bolus” meaning “bite” or “death”.

Some scholars believe that this Christian  conception of the Devil and the imagery   conjured by it was significantly influenced  by the Desert Fathers who retreated to the   Egyptian deserts in the 4th-3rd centuries AD,  as their visions of the dark angel mentioned  

In scriptures and memories of fallen gods  led them to create a synthetic portrait   of a grotesque anthropomorphic devil, which was  later legislated by the Council of Toledo in 447. Be that as it may, the first Christians did not  imagine the devil in the way most do today nor  

Was he portrayed often in primitive Christian  art. According to ethnologist Antoaneta Olteanu,   such ritual “silence” around his portrayal  can be explained by one Russian fairy tale,   in which a peasant is commanded by a  lord to paint the portrait of the Devil;  

And the man does so but without looking  at his art. When he finishes the painting,   he takes it to the lord who, after gazing  upon it, is found dead the next day. And so, it was only centuries later that  the Devil as we know him today came to  

Be depicted. Art Historian Jurgis Baltrušaitis  demonstrated that European demonic iconography of   the 14th-16th centuries had been enriched with  elements from the East, which intensified its   frightening aspects. Thus, hordes of devils with  bat wings or women’s breasts came from China to   the walls of Western Churches, amplifying  the demonism of an already cryptic being.

And so, the Devil has not always been depicted as  diabolical. And he maintained in many aspects his   divine origin, even if as an intermediary between  the material world and the spiritual realm.   And Romanian mythology emphasizes this,  placing him alongside God as a primordial  

Being whose influence on reality spans  back to the very act of creation,   in which he is said to have  played a significant role. It is said that the Devil emerged into the world  alongside God, from a worm on an island of foam  

Floating on the primordial ocean called Saturday’s  Water. Although, in a Transylvanian variant,   the Devil is said to have appeared after God,  in his angry solitude, cast his hatchet into the   cosmic ocean from which sprung the cosmic Fir tree  representative of the axis mundi. The Devil was  

Nestling under it, and so he was made the being  at the center of creation. But, in all variants,   the Devil calls God Fârtat which means brother  while God calls him Nefârtat which means the   opposite, a non-brother, or someone “unlike him”,  an enemy. And despite their differences, they live  

In good understanding at first, until the Devil  wants to create the world or a bed to rest upon. At the behest of God, the Devil dives into  the cosmic ocean and brings mud to the surface   from which the Earth is created by God and  later expanded through the Devil’s cunning.  

Depending on the version, the mud burns the Devil,  darkening his appearance, or it is his cunning   and disobedience to God that morphs him into a  dark monstrous being over time, but regardless,   some of the mud always gets trapped under his long  fingernails and henceforth he is deemed unclean  

Despite the dirt being considered magical and  the Earth made from it being considered sacred.   This makes the Devil an earth-diver, which is a  common character in traditional creation myths   throughout all of Eurasia, India, Oceania, and  America, who is sent by the primordial being into  

The cosmic ocean to find the mud for the creation  of the Earth. This motif is between 75,000 and   130,000 years old and so, it has been passed down  through oral tradition for a long time. While in   most cultures the earth-diver is depicted as a  bird, usually a duck, in Eastern European creation  

Myths, this character is generally embodied  by the Devil, one of the primordial twins. And in Romanian folklore, the Devil is not  only an earth-diver but also a demiurge.   As the legend goes, “God made the world and  everything on it with the help of the Devil,  

And because of this, the world is only  good in part, and evil exists in it.”   It is said that, after completing the creation  of the earth, God went to wash his hands,   and “from the drops that splashed  from his hands, the angels were born.  

Seeing this, the Devil also washed his hands, but  from his drops came out demons. And so he kept   washing and sprinkling droplets everywhere, and  therefore more demons exist than angels.” And this   is also reflected in the Romanian proverb: “God  builds the house, the devil brings the guests.”

And so, in Romanian mythology, the devil’s role  is not limited to that of a mere antagonist of   the Abrahamic God. Instead, he serves as  a demiurge and a crucial figure in binding   together the divine and mortal realms. As a  trickster archetype, he also causes disruption  

And chaos in both worlds through his otherwise  creative meddling and inventions. And although   he is put in direct opposition to God, his scope  is not merely limited to the destruction of his   brother’s creations. Many of the Devil’s  attempts at proving his power resulted in  

The birth of new realities and creations that  the other creator could never have conceived. In some folk tales, the act of creation seems  to be an eternal and rather playful competition   between the two beings. For instance, it  is said that the Devil created the goat,  

And God created the sheep. Then the Devil  built the tavern and God built the Church.   And when the Devil invented tobacco and  brandy, God invented frankincense and   wine. But sometimes his creations remain  unfinished or turn out to be bizarre. One legend has it that the  Devil built the first house,  

But he built it without windows or doors and so  he could only enter and exit through the chimney.   He was not very happy with it and so he gave  it to God who fixed it. And then he created  

The wolf from mud, but the wolf would not move  at his command. God, seeing this, yelled at the   wolf to jump and bite the Devil and so the  wolf lunged at his creator who ran from him.

Another time, when the Devil saw that God created  the first man, he wanted to create one too but he   ended up creating the monkey instead. And to scorn  God, he taught the first man how to wear his pelt  

Inside out, growl, and hide under a bridge to  thus scare God. But when God crossed the bridge   and heard the man growl, he cursed him to forever  remain that way, and thus the first bear appeared.

And so, although God was not able to conceive  the same things as the Devil, it was always he   that perfected his brother’s creations and  so the Devil always remained in his shadow.   Because of this, the Devil grew with resentment  and turned his demons and some of God’s angels  

Against him. They revolted but lost the battle.  The traitors fell into the bowels of the Earth,   while some fell into waters, forests, and deserts  where they were ordained to remain and rule. Others got stuck hanging in the aether upside  down. It is said that their drool rains on the  

Earth ever since, causing death and disease. Those  who hung upright began creating the Borders of   the Aether, the borders that the souls of the  dead must cross and pay to reach the Heavens. As for the Devil himself, God chained  and threw him into the infernal realm  

Near the core of creation or axis mundi which  is said to be in the waters beneath the Earth.   There, “he sits fettered in the sea and endlessly  gnaws at his chains. And just when they are about   to come loose, the blacksmiths fasten them  back. They were taught by their ancestors  

That on Sundays, when the Sun is about to set,  they must beat the hammer once in vain and then   the Devil’s chains are made again.” And this part  of the myth is reflected in what is possibly the   oldest and most consistent folk tale across the  Indo-European space: The Smith and the Devil.

Although he was confined to the Underworld, it is  said that the Devil continued to scheme against   God. And so, he crafted a golden throne adorned  with jewels that would impress his brother.   But he crafted it in such a manner that  whoever sat on it, would be stuck there,  

Fettered by unseen hands. When he was done, he  invited God to his realm and sit on his throne.   But sensing his intentions, God tricked  the Devil into sitting on the throne   first to show him how it’s done, and  so the Devil fell into his own trap.

As such, Romanian folklore places the Devil in  the underworld where he is shackled and naked   in his dark and hideous form. But his spirit  is believed to dwell on Earth, especially in   desolate wastelands “where roosters do not crow,  sheep do not graze, and priests do not toll.”

Here, he can take on any form he desires, from  a lowly goat to a graceful horse, a small mouse   to a fierce dragon. Sometimes, he may appear as  a monstrous being with two horns, pointed ears,   wolfish red eyes, and goat-like legs complete  with hooves, fur, and a long tail, and other  

Times he can fashion himself into a simple ball  of yarn. No shape is beyond his ability except   for those said to be created by God, such  as the sheep, bee, lamb, dove, or donkey. His shape-shifting abilities make him a master of  illusion and trickery and it is said that he uses  

Them to lead people astray, particularly those who  have broken sacred norms regarding time and space,   such as stepping into a magical place like  the forest or a graveyard during the night.   There is no shortage of folk tales  describing the Devil’s apparition  

In such desolate places in the dead of the  night putting the fear of God into people. However, not everyone is afraid of him and many  call him by repulsive names such as Dark One, Ugly   One, Crippled One, Killed-by-the-Cross, Unclean  One, or Scaraoțchi, from the word Iscariot.  

And they often send him awful people and objects  too by using the well-known curse “Go to Hell.”   They also “cut the Devil in four” quite often,   which means they’ve achieved a great  accomplishment, as the Romanian saying goes. Although he can be cunning and is described  as such in many tales, folklore suggests that  

The Devil can be outsmarted by human ingenuity  and especially women who, as the saying goes,   ”are more devilish than the Devil.” The story of  “The Woman Stronger Than the Devil” is a popular   example of this. In the tale, the Devil comes  to take the fortune of a man who made a pact  

With him. But a woman intervenes to help  the man. She gives the Devil a string of   curly hair to straighten, but the Devil fails  and flees, leaving the man with his fortune. In other stories, the hero outwits the Devil by  tricking him repeatedly, so much so that the Devil  

Falls into his own traps or outright tries to get  rid of the human by even paying him to go away.   And this theme is widespread throughout Romania,   especially in Maramureș,  Muntenia, and Transylvania. Beyond such tales, where  folklore meets esotericism,   the Devil acts as a conduit between  the spiritual and material realms,  

Imparting knowledge and information that would  otherwise be unattainable. His connection to the   mythical time of creation and the afterlife, and  his ability to move between these realms, can make   him a valuable ally according to folklore. And in  some tales, summoning him can result in a mutually  

Beneficial exchange of skills and information,  leading to unique wealth and occult knowledge. The Devil is known to patronize figures  like sorcerers and skilled performers,   who he endows with extraordinary  abilities. And there is an array of   traditions and practices used to establish  communication or exchanges with him.  

It is said that if you need the Devil for  anything, you must collect nine sticks that   you find spinning on a body of water and, whilst  naked, take them to a crossroad at midnight.   There, make a fire with them and the  Devil will appear. And when he does,  

Offer him two eggs. If he accepts them, he will do  anything you ask. And after he fulfills your wish,   you must leave the location and when you do, you  will hear screaming, laughing, chanting, drumming,   even gunshots, but you must not look back because  if you do, the Devil will turn you to shreds.

But the Devil will not dare as  much against old witches, or hags.   It is said that the only creature the  Devil fears is the hag, which is the   term commonly used for a healing witch,  wise woman, or sorceress in her old age.  

As opposed to Western interpretations of witches  who are enslaved by the Devil in some way, the hag   in Romanian folklore has mythical qualities and  legends place her emergence in time immemorial. As one legend goes, once upon a time when God  was walking with St. Peter on Earth, he saw the  

Devil arguing with an old woman. He immediately  sent St. Peter to separate them and make peace.   And he did as God instructed, but as soon as he  left the two alone, they started arguing again.   Once more, God sent him to separate them. And  so, St. Peter got angry and beheaded them both.  

As if he had done nothing wrong, he then  returned to God who asked how he separated them.   And St. Peter told him that he cut off  their heads, to which God demanded that   he go back and restore them. St. Peter went  and put the Devil’s head on the old woman’s,  

And on the old woman’s, the Devil’s,  because he could not tell the difference. And so, his metamorphosis from an  earth-diver demiurge to a trickster   archetype and later a personification of  generic evil is, at its core, a reflection   of man’s magico-religious perception  of non-life and the agency of chaos.

The Forbidden Devil Fruit Oda Chose For The Final Villain Of One Piece



Imu-Sama, the secret ruler of the World Government, probably has the most mind-boggling power in all of One Piece. If you thought the Nika fruit was overpowered, then Imu is about to be straight up broken, with one of the strongest devil fruit powers imaginable.

If we’re right, then Imu is firmly in One Piece final boss territory. The King of the Pirates is the person with the most freedom on the sea. But little does Luffy know – little does the world know, that there is a true king in the

One Piece world – and that no one is free. If anyone is to claim the One Piece, it’s not the rival members of the Worst Generation they have to worry about, nor the fearsome Yonkou. Not even the almighty Cross Guild is the biggest threat on the Grand Line, despite having the

Greatest swordsman in the world (and greatest clown in the world) among their number. The faction that has the most to lose from the One Piece being discovered is the World Government. The future Fleet Admiral, Sakazuki, didn’t think twice about condemning an entire island

To a fiery death if it meant restricting the knowledge of the poneglyphs – the objects that reveal the true history and lead to the ultimate treasure. They’d even imprison one of their own CP-9 agents – Who’s Who – for losing the Nika fruit, which is somehow connected to the legacy of Joyboy.

It’s obvious that the World Government will do anything to stop this treasure from being revealed – and at the top of that government, at the top of the whole world, is not a pirate king: that seat has long sat vacant since Roger’s execution.

The person with the most power in the One Piece world, even if most of the world doesn’t know it, is the mysterious Imu-Sama. And chances are that this mysterious entity will pull out all the stops in order to prevent any pirates from claiming the One Piece and learning the true history.

There are a lot of candidates for who will be Luffy’s final opponent. Could it be Akainu? Or Blackbeard? Or the infamous Buggy D. Clown? We actually made a whole video about it that you can check out here: Only time will tell

Who Luffy’s final match up will be, but it Im-Sama is one of the prime candidates. The world government has been one of the story’s leading antagonistic forces even since the earliest chapters in East Blue. If the final opponent ends up being the World Government and not another pirate crew like

Blackbeard or Shanks, the most likely big bad could be Imu. Even though Luffy has a personal grudge against Akainu, Imu-Sama is the ultimate leader of the world government. And if Luffy represents the the new dawn of the world, if he beats the drums of liberation,

And bring freedom to the world – then Im may represent the opposite, the highest authority in the world, putting people across the seas in chains, both literal and metaphorical. But if Im is a fighter worthy of occupying the spot of Luffy’s final opponent, then

They need to give us one hell of a fight and he needs a power set that contends with the wild abilities of the Sun God Nika fruit. One of the prevailing theories of Nika’s fruit is that they have the most overpowered fruit possible: the water-water fruit. Or the Sea-Sea fruit- Or Ocean-Ocean.

Or the fruit of some unnamed Sea God – whatever you call it, it’s the wettest fruit around – pure water as opposed to muddy water like Caribou’s swamp or cold water like Kuzan’s ice. Devil fruit users all lose the ability to swim.

The sea drains them of their abilities, and even the ability to move while submerged. Someone with a water-water fruit would be a natural counter not only to something like the Mera-Mera no Mi. Luffy’s hard counter to Eneru’s lightning fruit was one thing, but we’re talking about a hard counter to every. Single.

Devil fruit. If we think that the Nika fruit seems OP, with its abilities to seemingly break reality and apply cartoon logic to Luffy’s stretching and shape shifting, then get ready to get a whole lot OP-er, when Imu-Sama simply turns off his devil fruit with a nice soak.

Besides the idea that a water fruit would just be absurdly broken, it would make a lot of sense for Imu-Sama to have. The Japanese word “Umi” means “sea” or “ocean”. Umi backwards spells “Imu” = Coincidence? Probably not, given how much Oda loves wordplay. It’s too on the nose to not have a meaning.

Thematically, Imu having a sea fruit makes sense as well. He is the being with the most power on the seas. The dangerous oceans of the One Piece world are what keep people separated, isolated from each other on their individual islands.

Only by braving the treacherous tides and turbulent weather of the Grand Line can members of different countries connect politically and economically. This separation makes it all the easier for the World Government to exert control over the seas, especially given their monopoly on Kairoseki – sea stone – that allows their

Ships to move safely through the calm belt, bypassing its deadly sea kings. If Imu-Sama controls the oceans in a figurative sense, maybe his fruit allows him to control the oceans in a much more literal sense. However – this isn’t the only power that would make sense for this all powerful figure

Of the One Piece world. If Imu is “Umi” backwards – maybe he’s not the ocean at all. Maybe he’s the opposite of the ocean. And a lot of the time when we’re thinking about elemental powers, we think of water and fire being opposites.

But in the context of One Piece, I don’t think fire really makes sense as the opposite of the ocean. In One Piece, you’re either at sea…or you’re on land. We’ve seen Pica’s stone fruit and Crocodile’s sand fruit – we even had Miss Merry Chirstmas’s

Tunneling mole fruit, but we have yet to see a proper Earth-Earth fruit in the series. The closest may be the Revolutionary Commander Morley’s Oshi Oshi no Mi, which allows her to push the ground and mold it as if it were clay.

However, this fruit is a paramecia – we’re still missing an Earth logia in a club that includes other elements like fire, ice, and so on. Speaking of Morley, though – did you know that this revolutionary has a bounty of 293, 000, 000 berries.

The Earth fruit doesn’t feel as overpowered as something like a sea fruit – but it also feels a lot more likely to exist. If devil fruit users are cursed by the sea, and the sea is their ultimate weakness, it might not make much sense for there to be a sea fruit after all.

And we can’t really discard Earth – as one of the four classical elements, it would definitely still pack a punch as a devil fruit. Having the earth fruit would make a lot of thematic sense for Imu as well. For pirates like Luffy, setting out to sea is representative of finding freedom and adventure.

It’s the opposite of being trapped on the land – like Luffy was for so long when he was too young to set sail with Ace or Shanks. If the open sea gives pirates freedom, then the earth or the land represents the opposite.

Where else but the land do the Straw Hats find corrupt kingdoms and monarchies like that of Wapol – when pirates like Arlong, Crocodile, and Doflamingo gave up adventuring on the sea, they turned to dominating others on islands. Imu having the earth fruit would also solve one of the biggest mysteries in One Piece:

Who created the Red Line? Back when Luffy’s fruit was still thought to be just a rubber fruit, he showed us how a creative, strong, and willful fruit user can turn even an average fruit into a force to be reckoned with.

The Earth fruit may not seem overpowered at first glance, but imagine if Imu is powerful enough to create a continent. If Imu was alive during the void century, perhaps he’s the reason there are no continents, save the Red Line. Using an Earth fruit, Imu-Sama could have reshaped the world to their liking.

Landmasses could have been sunk, leaving the human population disparate and scattered across distant islands. The red line could have been erected, bordering seas from each other and restricting travel between parts of the globe. Imu’s home itself, Mariejois, even sits atop this mighty landmass.

If this is Imu’s power, then Luffy will need a fruit as OP as the Nika fruit to even stand a chance. However, water and earth aren’t the only options for Imu’s potential power, either. There could be a To-Be-Determined mythical zoan to rival the Nika fruit – maybe a Sea

God fruit or, while we speculated in a previous video – that you can watch here – that Blackbeard possesses a Moon God fruit, maybe Imu-Sama is the real Moon God instead. If Oda does have Imu as a final villain instead of Blackbeard, this could be very fitting.

And after seeing Shanks’ incredible feat of conqueror’s haki in chapter 1055, we have to wonder if Imu even needs a devil fruit at all. Perhaps, like Shanks, Imu-Sama is just a haki user. However, one has to wonder how strong is the conqueror’s haki of someone who has literally conquered the entire globe.

Shanks’ haki stopped Aramaki in his tracks from miles away off the coast of Wano – could Imu’s haki have an even farther reach? There’s also the matter of the saber that Imu carries. So far we’ve only seen them use it to tear up bounty posters, in order to let the Gorosei

Know which lights need to be extinguished. We have to wonder, though, if maybe that’s not all that sword is good for. Luffy is particularly susceptible to cutting, slashing, and stabbing attacks – but this would be a strange route for Oda to go down.

Either Mihawk isn’t actually the strongest swordsman in the world and it’s Imu instead, or Zoro would end up with a more powerful opponent than Luffy’s in the final war. Finally, though, we have the somewhat anti-climactic option. Imu might just not be a fighter.

It wouldn’t be the first time that a major antagonist wasn’t a combatant. In Water 7/Enies Lobby, one of the other notable times the Straw Hats went up against the World Government directly, the leader of CP9 and arguably the central villain was Spandam. Spandam, despite his special sword, Funkfreed, was not a fighter.

This incompetent, sniveling, utterly punchable Cipher-Pol operative relied on the muscle of Rob Lucci and Lucci ended up becoming Luffy’s primary opponent for the arc. It might be the case that Imu-Sama, like most Celestial Dragons, just relies on the military might of the marines to carry out his will and for protection.

It could be that the Gorosei serve as Imu’s elite guard – though it isn’t yet confirmed that they’re fighters either. We just really, really hope we get to see Ghandi break out that sword. It’s unclear what Imu’s role in the story will be, but after their introduction at the

Reverie, it’s clear that they’ll play a pivotal role in the final saga. We still need to learn what the Great Cleansing is – and to learn how the World Government plans to carry it out. Maybe the Marines’ secret weapon, the SSG, will play some part.

To hell where he’s in charge. KATHLEEN MCGOWAN: Satan has become the catchall for the embodiment of evil. When we think of Satan, I think there are two different ways that our brains can go. The first is this almost comical character that rules over the land of flames,

The red guy with the horns and the pitchfork. But then on the darker side, I think that Satan has become this very, very terrifying, frightening embodiment of evil who causes man to do terrible things, who is the source of torture and death and destruction. NARRATOR: But are these perceptions of Satan correct?

Is he really the master of all things evil in the universe? Lakeland, Florida, 2012. Hundreds of faithful followers congregate at the Ignited Church to witness the removal of demons from those who believe they’re possessed by the devil. You let him go. All the pain and the hurt you’ve caused this man,

You let him go. The devil wants to get even. How else to hurt the heart of God to the greatest possible extent but to harm the beloved of his creation, the height of his creation, the thing that God loves most, humanity, human beings, me, you, every single person on Earth?

NARRATOR: In the ritual known as exorcism, a priest or minister performs a sacred right in order to confront Satan and drive him back to hell. It is a ceremony that dates back hundreds and perhaps thousands of years and is considered quite controversial even within the Catholic church.

I torment you by the blood of Christ. When I’m battling Satan, there are a lot of mind games going on, and it’s a bit of a chess match. You think you have her, don’t you? Don’t you? – Yes. You think she’s yours, don’t you? Well, she’s not.

So I have to be mentally and spiritually prepared for that. How long have you had her? Long time. Yeah? Well, now it’s going to be a short time. Torment to you. Torment! Torment you. NARRATOR: But just who or what is Satan? And why is he determined to corrupt all of humanity?

Perhaps the answers can be found in the myths and legends that describe Satan’s ancient origins. ADAM BLAI: In the beginning, Satan was one of the angels that was created by God before the physical universe was created, and there was basically a sphere of angels around God, worshiping God.

And Satan at that time was Lucifer or the day star. He was the brightest of the angels. KATHLEEN MCGOWAN: Satan is actually one of the archangels. He is one of the high angels, one of the highest ranking, one of the most beautiful, the most beloved. He is beloved of God.

He is a bringer of light. When God created man in his image, he ordered all the angels to worship his image in this man. And Satan refused. He says, look, they’re mud people. We’re made out of fire. I’m not going to do it. And so he gets kicked out.

He grew arrogant. He began to challenge God. And for this arrogance, he lost his heavenly position. He was thrown out of the heavens and fell. ADAM BLAI: When Lucifer was cast down, it was instant and abrupt and total. And he was cast down to Earth to roam here

Until the end of time. NARRATOR: Although few references are made to Satan in the Hebrew testament, he is depicted as an opposer or accuser and is generally acknowledged to have been the inspiration for the serpent in the Garden of Eden. BRETT PETERSON: One of the great stories in the Bible

Is Adam and Eve in the garden. You know, we have this picture of a beautiful garden scene, and Adam and Eve in their innocence just enjoying God and each other and this beautiful creation. And all of a sudden enters Satan in the form of a snake.

And he finds Eve close to the one thing, the one law God gave mankind. NARRATOR: According to the book of Genesis, God placed two trees in the garden, the tree of life and the tree of knowledge and forbade Adam and Eve to eat fruit from the tree of knowledge.

Satan convinces Eve to eat of the fruit of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, and she convinces Adam to do that. And, of course, we see that suddenly their whole personality changes. BRETT PETERSON: Prior to eating the forbidden fruit, Adam and Eve were sinless.

It means that the one law that God gave them, they had not disobeyed. Satan himself decided that if he could get them to break that one law, then sin would enter mankind. And when Adam ate, all mankind from that point on has been selfish, prideful, and were genetically

Given the ability and really the desire to rebel against authority and thus obtained the knowledge of good and evil. NARRATOR: But is this story of Adam and Eve really a fanciful account of how evil entered the world? Or might there be another even more profound explanation?

You can make a case that Eve actually wants to mature. She wants to grow up. God wants to keep us in a state of perpetual innocence, infantility perhaps. Eve decides that knowing everything she can know about this world into which she has been placed

Is more important even than obeying a particular command of God. The serpent enables her. Satan’s wanting to give humanity all this incredible wisdom that maybe can even elevate humankind to the level of gods. But the Old Testament God Yahweh is saying not so fast. Humankind aren’t perhaps worthy of this knowledge,

And this becomes then the battle between God and Satan. NARRATOR: Was the serpent’s temptation of Adam and Eve really a case of sabotage? Was it a deliberate effort to seduce mankind into sinning against its creator? Or might Satan’s real purpose have been to encourage mankind to share the fruits of God’s wisdom?

Ancient astronaut theorists believe more clues may lie in another book of the Hebrew testament. Southern Israel, this dry sun-blasted desert was once the realm of Edom, an ancient kingdom that some researchers believe was home to the biblical figure Job. According to the Hebrew Bible, Job was among the wealthiest men in the kingdom

And owned enormous herds of cattle, sheep, and camels. He was also among the most righteous, making sacrifices to the Almighty God to atone for his transgressions and the sins of his family. BARRY H. DOWNING: In the story of Job, Satan as part of the heavenly council of angels

And the council meets and God is at the council meeting and basically he and Satan have a discussion. WILLIAM FULCO: And God says, you know, look at Job. He’s very faithful. And Satan, in charge of quality control, and says, well, of course, you know. You give him everything. What do you expect?

KATHLEEN MCGOWAN: And Satan actually challenges God and says if Job were tempted, if he no longer had all of these wonderful things that God had given to him, what happens to him then? Satan convinces God the Job should be tested to see if he is really all that good.

And this is where Satan becomes the first adversary, the first tester of humans. JONATHAN YOUNG: So it’s interesting in this story, Satan is actually working with God as a kind of member of his staff or his heavenly council. WILLIAM HENRY: The divine council of God is very interesting because we learn

That it is composed of various angelic beings including Satan. And the idea is that these are advanced beings who carry out God’s orders and God’s wishes from the commands of this council. It really seems like we’re seeing some kind of divine bureaucracy, something like you would see in a corporate

Or a governmental bureaucracy. NARRATOR: Could our notion of Satan as an evil force be incorrect? Ancient astronaut theorists believe there is much more to this story and that the answer may be found not only in the pages of the Hebrew Bible but on ancient scrolls, scrolls whose origins date back thousands of years.

Qumran, the West Bank. Here during a series of excavations beginning in 1949, archaeologists unearth hundreds of ancient scrolls. They are believed to have been written by a Hebrew sect known as the Essenes more than 2,000 years ago. Several of the scrolls contained fragments of what has become known as the Book of Enoch

And the account of a rebellion launched by a group of angels called the Watchers. One of the most famous parts of the Book of Enoch is the story of the Watchers. This is a story about 200 angels that were charged with watching over mankind in its early stages and basically taking care

Of us, looking out for us. The Watchers are a group of angels who were dispatched to watch humans and to help humans. Now the Watchers are very interesting because they are angels who interact with humans. ADAM BLAI: There’s a brief reference to this in Genesis,

But the Book of Enoch essentially expands that story and tells a more full story. This was taken out of the canon of the Bible early in the church’s life, but it was in for a period of time. KATHLEEN MCGOWAN: Once the Watchers begin to interact with humans, they become infatuated

With this new species, and they become lustful of this new species. And all of the sudden, the original idea, the original commands that they were given seem a lot less interesting to them. ADAM BLAI: They came to a point where they wanted to take wives and have children, and so they decided

To rebel, create bodies, marry, and bear children. NARRATOR: According to the Book of Enoch, the leader of this rebellion is a watcher known as Samyaza or Sataneal. Could this be the same character we know as Satan? So what we’re seeing in the story of Samyaza

And the Watchers is very similar to the story of Lucifer in charge of the angels. In both cases, we are confronted with a hierarchy of a species which is between us and God, the leader of which disagrees with God and basically wants to live amongst mankind.

When you look at a different versions of the Book of Enoch, the one thing that combines all of them is that they talk about the Watchers, the Watchers from heaven, and they are the ones who gave knowledge. And when I look at terms such as Watchers from heaven,

Then personally I interpret them as possible extraterrestrials. NARRATOR: Do the ancient accounts of Samyaza’s revolt and Lucifer’s fall suggest that Satan’s efforts to corrupt mankind in the Garden of Eden were actually an attempt to give man forbidden knowledge? You could think of it as basically witchcraft, the casting of spells, creating magic, and using roots to create potions.

The Book of Enoch lists very specifically the subjects that are taught to humans by the Watchers, by these angels, who begin to share their wisdom with them. NARRATOR: The Book of Enoch describes Mount Hermon as the place where Samyaza taught humans about magic and medicine.

The way we know it is not something divine but is literally satanic. It was Satan who gave us the tools of civilization. In ancient Sumeria, you have these very curious stories of the Annunaki. The Annunaki where half god, half man who came down from the stars. They were instructing the Sumerians in various arts of civilization. They were very strange looking. They had elongated heads. They looked almost like insect-type people

Or what they call reptilian features in a sense or a viper visage as the Watchers were called in the Bible. In global cultures, we find constant references to these giant celestial beings coming to Earth and initiating or instructing humankind. Satan himself is considered to be a Seraphim, which means

Winged serpents or fiery serpents, but yet the word Seraphim contains the word ser meaning serpent and raphim them meaning giant. NARRATOR: Was the character we know is Satan really an extraterrestrial being, one who broke with his own species in order to live among our distant ancestors?

Did he, along with other so-called fallen angels, actually break with God not out of spite or arrogance but instead to help mankind? Perhaps further clues can be found in legends of a flying serpent and in the story of a titan who is savagely punished for all eternity. The Yucatan Peninsula.

A temple built to honor the Mayan serpent god Kukulkan. WILLIAM HENRY: Kukulkan is a name for Satan or for the winged serpent. He’s always portrayed as a wisdom burying being who delivers this cosmic knowledge to humankind. Often we’ll see Kukulkan portrayed

As half human or half serpent or as a human being coming out of the mouth of a serpent. This is how Christianity will traditionally portray Satan as a dragon figure or a serpentine like being. The question is why is he depicted as such,

And I think we really can find out that Kukulkan is not unique in this sense. NARRATOR: One of the most powerful gods in the Mayan pantheon, Kukulkan was believed to have descended from the stars. He is also credited with teaching astronomy, mathematics, and agriculture to mankind.

WILLIAM HENRY: This is identical to the Christian tradition of Satan being the serpent of the tree of knowledge delivering the forbidden wisdom to humanity. In the Book of Enoch, we learn of the Watchers who are described as having visage as of vipers or the face of a serpent and delivering

This powerful knowledge to humankind. So it’s possible that what we’re seeing in all of these instances is the same figure or representative of the same tribe of angels, the satanic beings or these serpentine like angel beings. NARRATOR: Are the stories of Satan and Kukulkan

Really based on the same being as many ancient astronaut theorists believe? And if so, might this same character also be found in the myths and legends of other ancient cultures. PHILIP COPPENS: Satan is a creature who comes out of nowhere to live amongst mankind

And teaches is not something which is limited to the Bible. We find it in most traditions across the world. Because he is a champion for humans. Right and the mythological stories talk about how Prometheus is basically like they’re representative. NARRATOR: Another such deity was the god Viracocha. Worshipped by the ancient Inca in the Andes of South America, Viracocha was a powerful creator god who came to Earth to pass on celestial knowledge.

Like Prometheus, this Incan god was described as a bringer of light and is depicted in ancient Incan sculpture as holding two lightning bolts and wearing the sun as a crown. It’s possible that Viracocha is the same as Samyaza or Satan as a figure bringing this liberating wisdom to humankind that seeks to bring us along the path of advancement and enlightenment. There’s basically nine levels which are fallen angels of various ranks serving under each other, ultimately serving Satan. NARRATOR: In many religious traditions, there are sacred rites to exorcise these demons from the bodies of the afflicted.

Let her go. Let her go. I come against you again, Satan, by the blood of Christ. NARRATOR: The Reverend Bob Larson is an evangelical minister, an exorcist, who says he has come face to face with the demonic and the truly satanic. The blood of Christ, I torment you, Satan.

You can’t have her. She belongs to God. Torment you. I torment you by the blood of Christ. Torment you! I’m here to be an instrument of God to cast out the devil, to free human souls. It’s not my power that does it. It’s God’s power. I’m simply the instrument that he uses.

But my mission is to get every demon possible out of every possible human being and send them straight to hell. How long have you had her? Get me some oil please. I anoint you in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. How long have you had this woman?

How many generations? How many generations? The demon is metaphysical. It is invisible. It’s spirit. Doesn’t have a physical body so a demon can’t really do anything evil. A demon can’t start a war, can’t pull the trigger of a gun, can’t rape anybody. A demon needs a body to accomplish its evil purposes.

So demons are looking to inhabit human souls so that through the physicality of human beings, they can bring about their plan of death and destruction. NARRATOR: According to Larson and other Christian theologians, demonic forces have always been present on Earth, and demons are continually traveling to Earth to sow the seeds of ruin.

But where exactly are they coming from? Is it hell or perhaps someplace else? BOB LARSON: Both the Jewish and Christian scriptures as well as other religious books that delve into the subject of demonism never fully describe the nature of their existence, where they operate.

It seems to be in a kind of parallel reality, another dimension, out of our time, space continuum. They’re there. We’re here. Einstein opened a little bit of a door into the possibility of other realms. We are getting a small glimpse of the reality that exists beyond our understanding.

In a valley in Israel called Megiddo or Har Megiddo, thus Armageddon we get the term. Satan himself will gather the armies of the world to Megiddo to fight Jesus Christ. Satan takes on a more physical appearance, uses various technologies to enslave more and more of mankind.

Ultimately, he becomes a geopolitical force, basically essentially a dictator of the entire world. NARRATOR: The Book of Revelation further describes that this battle will be fought in heaven and on Earth. Angels will descend from the sky. Demons will spread out across the land to destroy with fiery swords.

And the Almighty God will reign destruction down upon Earth. KATHLEEN MCGOWAN: The Book of the Revelation is really a pretty terrifying document if we’re to look at it and think that these things could happen literally. I mean, when you look at what’s happening in the book, we have cataclysms on the Earth.

We have earthquakes. We have fire raining from the sky. We have angels doing battle in heaven. And then repeatedly we have Satan coming back. NARRATOR: But could it be that this biblical prophecy isn’t a doomsday prediction of cataclysm and war but it has another even more profound interpretation?

The Book of Revelation gives us some of the clearest depictions of what not a few moderns would call extraterrestrial activity. Think about it. We have supernatural beings flying through the cosmos blowing trumpets, casting fire upon the Earth. We have great conflict between light and darkness, good and evil.

There’s a cosmic dualism going on here that involves in the end the reassertion of divine authority over those wayward angels who had gone astray so long ago. NARRATOR: Extraterrestrial combat? When The Devil’s Son Is Awakened By Humans, The End Of The World Is Coming!！



During an eclipse in 1957, a priest sneakily  enters a church with a newborn baby who has   a unique mark on his left chest.  The priest lays the crying baby   on the altar before he starts praying. As soon as the priest finishes praying,  

He takes out a dagger and holds it up against the  baby, referring to the baby as “an evil seed”.  Just then, militia arrive at the church,  ordering the priest to drop his weapon.  The priest appeals to the militia, claiming  that they do not understand what he is doing. 

The soldiers are left with no choice but to  shoot the priest and rescue the baby afterwards.  Thirty years later after the incident, an  undercover priest and exorcist who identifies   himself as Father Marek, unboards a bus on an  eerie-looking highway.He takes out a map and  

Smokes a cigarette before arriving at a church. Marek is welcomed by a monk named Prior Andrzej,   as he expresses his gratitude to  Marek for willingly joining them.  Marek looks around inside the church,  where he sees a number of priests.  The Prior explains to Marek that  the church is in fact a sanatorium,  

A place in which people under the influence  of the Devil are brought in to be healed.  Additionally, the priests inside the  sanatorium also refer to themselves   as monks within a brotherhood and  live together inside the facility.   The Prior introduces Marek to Brother Dawid,  who is known as the resident jack of all  

Trades in the sanatorium. The three of them meet   inside an isolated storage area. Dawid offers Marek rosary beads,   but Marek respectfully declines and insists  that he has brought his own rosary.   They orient Marek with the standard  procedures at the sanatorium, as Dawid   proceeds with inspecting Marek’s suitcase.  Dawid confiscates Marek’s cigarettes before  

The Prior leads Marek to his quarters. There is no electricity or phones around   the quarters, but the Prior relieves Marek  that he will be comfortable during his stay.  After his final reminders, the Prior soon  leaves and Marek settles inside his room.  

When Marek changes his clothes and reveals  his chest, a familiar unusual scar shows   which infers that he is the same infant from  the shooting incident thirty years ago.   He opens his suitcase and shows a  hidden compartment containing a pistol,   a flashlight, and other items that  were not allowed inside the premises.  

Marek also takes out a piece of  paper before closing his suitcase,   exposing a small newspaper  article about a missing woman.   The bell tolls right at that moment, calling  all monks to gather in the dining area.  The Prior leads the prayer before the  priests start eating their dinner.  

Marek stares at the bowl of food  questioningly for its unusual taste and odor. He glances over the other priests  who seem to be eating just fine,   and so he eats the strange-looking food. After dinner, Marek continues his tour   around the sanatorium. He comes across several  

Different chambers containing other  individuals who are said to be possessed.  Inside one chamber, he stumbles  upon a woman and a priest inside.  Marek stares at the woman briefly  before he returns to his quarters.  He then takes a shower. However ,during the  interval, Marek does not notice that the crucifix  

In his room has subtly rumbled.   The next day, the Prior organizes   an exorcism session in the sanatorium.  Marek enters a room full of lit candles   along with the rest of the monks.  Inside, he discovers that it was   the woman he previously saw inside a chamber. She stares blankly at the ceiling while tied  

On a bed as the monks gather on the corner.  Father Piotr, Prior Andzrej’s second in command   and also his Vice Prior, prepares to record  the exorcism from the other side of the room.   Before they begin the ritual, Prior  Andrzej relieves the woman, telling  

Her that she will be healed through their help. Marek witnesses how the exorcism is performed as   the Prior sprinkles the woman with holy water. The holy water makes the woman wince,   as the Prior proceeds with the holy prayer. He continues the prayer in Latin and the  

Other monks follow his lead while the  woman slowly moves around the bed.  As the prayer intensifies, the woman wildly gets  up from the bed and snarls against the Prior.   The bed shakes fiercely as she continues  to wail, shuddering frantically. 

The Prior holds a crucifix against the woman  but she screeches and the crucifix catches fire.  After the exorcism, Marek comes back  to his quarters to wash his face.  He stares in the mirror for a moment  before it shatters in his touch,   making him freeze in surprise. Shortly after, the door to his wardrobe  

Mysteriously opens with a low, guttural growl.  Marek leaves his quarters and walks across   the hallway of the facility. He discovers a mysterious door   on the corner of the hallway and approaches it. Just when he is about to enter the mysterious   room, Dawid appears before him.  Dawid tells Marek that he can’t  

Enter the room unless the Prior invites  him, so Marek obediently leaves the door.  During dinner time, the monks  continue to eat the strange-tasting   food but Marek is unable to digest it.  He throws up as soon as he returns to his room. 

Marek feels an immediate ache coming from  his jaw, making him pull out his tooth.  When he looks at his tooth, it cracks  open, revealing a buzzing fly.    He frantically pants and checks his  mouth in front of the cracked mirror.  Later that night, Marek comes back  in front of the mysterious room. 

He pulls out a small pointed metal from the  cross of his rosary and picks on the lock.  The lock clicks open and he enters the room,  which is revealed to be the Prior’s office.  Marek quietly looks into the shelves, until  he stumbles upon a small hole in a painting. 

He touches the painting and not  long after the wall clatters,   displaying a hidden room behind the painting.  Marek finds a small storage containing a  number of cassette tapes and a television.  He plays a tape, showing the recorded video  of the woman who was previously exorcised. 

He later leaves the Prior’s office and comes  back to the room where the exorcism took place.  Marek lingers around the room, where he  finds a mechanism that controls the bed   and a machine produces the wind inside.  He also touches the crucifix that was used  

And discovers a lighter behind  it that initiated its fire.  Marek comes to a realization that the  exorcism he had witnessed earlier was staged.   He returns to his quarters in confusion  and picks up the crucifix on his wall,   keeping it concealed inside a cabinet. The Prior gathers the monks for another  

Prayer meeting the following day. He calls Marek in front of the platform   to lead their penitential act. Marek hesitantly steps in front   and leads the prayer. The Prior tells him to   recite the prayer in Latin, and he haltingly  obliges while reciting random Latin words.  

Prior Andrzej interrupts Marek, as he  instructs Father Piotr to take over   the penitential act instead. While eating their dinner,   Marek unexpectedly ingests strands of hair from  another bowl of the strange-looking food.    He automatically gags and coughs in the middle  of his meal, rushing to spit out the food. 

When he returns to his quarters, he  glances on his side only to find that   the crucifix is hung back on his wall. Feeling a sense of danger and anxiety,   Marek then opens his suitcase and takes out  the pistol before putting it in his pocket. 

He also burns the newspaper  article about the missing woman.   Marek walks through the halls and lets out  an exasperated sigh, unable to understand the   strange occurrences inside the sanatorium. He forcefully pulls the chained gates to   express his frustration, before he catches  sight of a few monks digging a grave with  

A casket outside the sanatorium. Marek returns to the individual   chambers to check on the possessed woman he saw  earlier but only finds the room to be empty.   Father Piotr, the Vice Prior, appears behind  Marek and watches him in the chamber.  

He requests for his presence in the church  while waiting for him in the confessional.  They enter the confessional,  where the two talk in secret. Piotr warns Marek that the other  priests are watching his every   step and that it would be dangerous for him  to continue on exploring the sanatorium.  

Marek reveals to him that he is not a  priest nor an exorcist, but an officer   of the Citizen’s Militia who went undercover to  investigate the missing women in their area.   It was through an anonymous tip that Marek is sent  in disguise to the sanatorium, after learning that  

The missing women were sent to the place. He further explains that the militia cannot   run a normal investigation in the  sanatorium because of the shooting   incident with a priest thirty years ago.  In response, Piotr reveals to Marek   that the possessions and exorcisms are  indeed staged in order to get attention  

And budget from the Vatican. Piotr leaves Marek with a last   warning before leaving the confessional. Later, Marek comes back to his room and   looks around for any surveillance.  He pushes aside a closet and finds   a hole with dark liquid spilling out. Marek touches the liquid and slowly puts  

His hand into the hole, discovering a peculiar  device made with an eyeball and a small bone.  Just then, he gags and ends up  spitting dark liquid on his floor.   He glances at the floor when a buzzing  sound intensifies, as more flies emerge  

From the dark liquid he vomited. Marek watches the door for a moment,   until he turns back and finds a hallucination of  his face being soaked by the unknown dark liquid.  As the night deepens, he sneaks  off to locate the exorcised woman.   He goes out to the graveyard and  digs through the grave earlier. 

However, Marek discovers  that the casket was empty.   Just then, Father Dawid emerges behind  him and covers his head with a cloth.  When Marek wakes up in his room, he  realizes that he is tied to his bed.  All his belongings, including his pistol,  have been discovered by the monks. 

Dawid watches him while he struggles  against the ropes, before the Prior   enters his room with four portions of meat.  The Prior expresses his disappointment to   Marek for their failed collaboration,  before they proceed to force-feed him   with four portions of meat. Marek gags and ends up losing  

Consciousness during his meal. He wakes up later that night and   notices that Dawid has dozed off.  In an instant, he untangles himself   from the ropes and takes the chance to escape. Dawid shortly wakes up and catches him in the act,  

Leading the two to engage in a wrestle. After much struggle, Marek throws Dawid   to the ground and shoots him dead.  Before leaving his quarters, Marek notices   the bowls that were used earlier for his meat.  He sets off in the kitchen to learn more about  

The strange-tasting food being fed to them.  Inside, he discovers a freezer which contains   the disfigured bodies of the  women he was looking for.  Marek soon figures out that he and  the monks have been consuming the   organs of the women all this time.  He bumps against Piotr in the kitchen,  

Who has come looking for him, and  they both stare in shock at the sight.  Marek becomes even more determined to  escape the sanatorium but Piotr calls   him over to an ancient library.    Piotr brings out an ancient book and   reveals a ritual about “The Chosen One”. He states that “The Chosen One” was born  

During an eclipse and had to be  immediately killed using a dagger.   If he isn’t slain after birth, then the  Chosen One will devour seven sinners and   drink the blood of an innocent.  As soon as the ritual is complete,  

The Chosen One will become a demon and  will bring upon the end of the world.  Piotr speculates that Marek is the Chosen  One and that the Prior and the rest of   the monks are completing the ritual. It is revealed that Prior Andrzej and  

The monks are priests that worship Satan  and are working on summoning the devil.  While Marek scans through the pages, he  finds an image of the same appearance as   the scar on his left chest. Despite that, he denies the  

Tale out of disbelief and the two of them  devise a plan to escape in the sanatorium.  Piotr offers a plan and mentions a hidden  passage that leads outside the monastery,   inviting Marek to escape with him.  In an attempt to gain his trust, Piotr  

Also shows Marek the scars he had acquired after  supposedly trying to escape from the sanatorium.   In the end, Marek trusts Piotr  and lets him lead the way.  He introduces Marek to a small tunnel and  the two of them crawl deep into a cave.  

Suddenly, they hear a noise from behind and  soon later Marek is cornered by two monks,   who immobilize him in the process.  He turns his head towards Piotr,   realizing that it was all a bait,  before the monks knock him unconscious.   Marek wakes up at the sight of  the church monks surrounding him. 

He is again bound and tied to  a wooden pillar while the Prior   and the church monks gather in their red cloaks.   Prior Andrzej reveals to Marek that he had  intentionally brought him to the sanatorium,   and the few anonymous tips Marek  got actually came from him.  

The Prior apologizes to Marek for the deception,  but he also clears out that everything they   had done came with good intentions. Prior Andrzej and their brotherhood of   church monks believe that God and the Devil  sit side by side with an understanding.  

He further explains to Marek that it  is not the Devil but the humans who   are evil, and that in turn they have  deserved punishment for a long time. The church monks also believe that a gateway  to Hell exists in the nearby well, leading them  

To build the sanatorium in the said location. The entire brotherhood has waited for 800 years   before Marek, the Chosen One, came to existence. When the ritual is complete, the devil will emerge   from the well and enter Marek’s body.  Soon after, the church monks proceed  

To complete the ritual by acquiring the last  requirement, which is the blood of an innocent.  They bring over the woman who was previously  exorcised, making her kneel before Marek.  Marek stares down at the woman  he has long been looking for,  

Trying to stop the priest from killing her.  The priest mercilessly slashes the throat of the   woman and collects the gushing blood out of her.  Then, they all sips the woman’s blood from a   bowl before disposing of her. Ultimately, The Prior reaches  

The bowl onto Marek’s mouth and forces  him to do the same while he whimpers.  The Prior leads another prayer, as the church  monks recite a chant to call upon the Devil.   But after reciting their chants and  completing the ritual, nothing happens.   Marek cackles weakly while Prior  Andrzej checks back to Piotr  

Whether they have missed a step on the ritual. Piotr reviews the ancient book but fails to find   any more instructions left to do. The two continue to speculate and   recall how they did the ritual.  When they come to a realization that   the ritual has failed, Piotr becomes  upset and subtly blames the Prior.  

As a response to the rest of the church monks,  Piotr admits there was a mistake on their part.  He orders them to go back to their quarters  and meet the next day like nothing happened.   The members grow concerned with Marek, thinking  that the militia will come looking for him soon.  

Piotr faces Marek and apologizes to  him before he stabs him with a dagger.   He stares at Marek until he loses consciousness,  before the church monks untie him.  They then drag Marek towards  the well and throw him inside.   Later on, the Prior drinks out his dissatisfaction  at the failed ritual while smoking a cigarette. 

He goes through the night while  drowning his frustration in liquor,   failing to notice that the cross in  his room has turned upside down.    After some time, Piotr enters  his room and finds him wasted.   It looks as if he is helping  the Prior to settle on his bed,  

However, Piotr grabs on a pillow and pushes  it against the Prior’s face, suffocating him. The Prior chokes and lets out  continues muffled struggles but   Piotr holds the pillow firmly, killing him.  By the following day, the church monks burn  

The disfigured bodies of the women, when suddenly  Piotr calls them to gather in the Prior’s room.  He shows the church monks the dead body of the  Prior while pretending to mourn his passing.  The responsibilities of the  Prior are now given to Piotr. 

Meanwhile, Marek turns out alive as he  awakens at the bottom of the well.    He slowly gets up and looks around  the well surrounded with bones,   before his body starts to shake violently.   Inside the sanatorium, Piotr and the church monks  

Recite a prayer for the soul of Prior Andrzej. In the midst of the prayer service, Piotr   shudders as he loses control of his senses.  All of a sudden, he drops the ancient book,   as he is unable to talk any  longer or move at his own will. 

The church monks stare at Piotr in  confusion while he continuously gags.   He slowly rises into the air with his  arms forced to be spread horizontally,   mimicking the pose of the crucifix. Just then, Piotr screams in agony   while his body dissipates into a  massive group of buzzing flies. 

While the flies buzz, a demon known as the  Sabbatical goat, emerges from behind the altar.  It is later revealed that the entire ritual  was not a failed attempt because they have   successfully summoned the demon, and the  demon was able to enter the sanatorium. 

The faceless demon-goat looks at the church  monks and shrieks loudly, shocking them.  They attempt to run out of the sanatorium,  but the demon stuns them in place.   The church monks all freeze there  while the statue of Jesus on the  

Altar slowly turns towards the demon.  It looks back at the statue of Jesus and   imitates the pose of the crucifix. At the same time, the church monks   levitate on their spots and are forced to stand  upside-down, following an inverted cross.   Soon, every human being inside the  sanatorium takes after the inverted cross.  

Outside the sanatorium, the dead  flowers and trees slowly come alive.  This implies that the dead would  be brought back to life while   the living would immediately come to die. In the end, the demon continues to empower   its presence inside the sanatorium. Within a few minutes, the ceiling  

Of the sanatorium breaks in half. The sky cracks open and is followed   by a rumbling thunder, signifying how evil has  returned into the Earth with a new world order.

At the present time, the devil walks about. “He walketh about, he has access to you everywhere, “he knows your feelings and your propensities, “and informs himself of all your circumstances. “Only God can know more and do more than he, “therefore, your care must be cast upon God.”, Clarke. He is a finite being and can only be in one place at one time, yet his effort, energy, and associates enable him to extend his influence all over the world and in every arena of life. We read, “Like a roaring lion.” For Christians, Satan is a lion who may roar

Colossians 2:15, “When he had disarmed the rulers “and authorities, those supernatural forces “of evil operating against us, “he made a public example of them, “exhibiting them as captives in his triumphal procession, “having triumphed over them through the cross.” However, the sound of his roar,

His deceptive lies, is still potent. Psalm 91:3 implies Satan may come against us like a fowler who captures birds. Psalm 91:3, “For he will save you from the trap “of the fowler and from the deadly pestilence.” Fowlers are always quiet and secretive, never wanting to reveal their presence.

2 Corinthians 11:14 tells us that Satan can come as an angel of light appearing glorious, reasonable, and attractive. Nevertheless, Peter warns us that Satan sometimes attacks like a roaring lion, loud and intimidating. 2 Corinthians 11:14, “And no wonder, “since Satan himself masquerades as an angel of light.” We have three facts now.

Number one, he roars through persecution. Number two, he roars through strong temptation. Number three, he roars through blasphemies and accusations against God. We note Satan’s goal, “Seeking whom he may devour.” His goal isn’t just to lick or nibble on his prey. He wants to devour it. “He can never be content

“till he sees the believer utterly devoured. “He would rend him in pieces and break his bones “and utterly destroy him if he could. “Do not, therefore, indulge the thought “that the main purpose of Satan is to make you miserable. “He is pleased with that, but that is not his ultimate end.
